General Transportation Information
Arrival:
Students may arrive between 8:45 and 9:15 AM. Breakfast is served during this thirty-minute period for students who would like to eat their breakfast at school. The instructional day begins at 9:15 AM, so it is very important that parents ensure their children arrive in plenty of time in order to be "ready to learn" at 9:15 AM. A calm, non-rushed morning is better for everyone, so please try to set that kind of routine for your whole family.
Dismissal:
The school day ends at 3:45 PM. Students will be dismissed in three different ways: walkers, carpool, and bus. If you know you will have difficulty picking your children up at this time, please make arrangements for after-school care, either at the Cedar Fork Community Center or at one of the other child care centers in the area.
Kindergarten Parents:
Staggered entry dates will be mailed out to individual kindergarten families before the beginning of the school year.
Absences/Late Arrival:
Please write a note to your child's classroom teacher indicating the reason for your child's absence upon his/her return. When a student arrives late, you are asked to sign him/her in at the front office.
Safety:
For the safety of all children, students may not be dropped off on Town Hall Drive or anywhere in the parking lot other than the designated carpool unloading zone.
Bus
Particularly at the beginning of each year, the posted bus routes are subject to change as adjustments are made to the routes by the Transportation Department. Students should be at their assigned bus stops at least 10 minutes before the scheduled pick-up times. Please expect delays the first two weeks of school as bus routes are constantly adjusted during this time to fulfill the needs of all students assigned to attend Cedar Fork. Any questions or concerns regarding transportation should be directed to the Wake County Transportation Website.
Carpool
We would like parents to be aware of some safety guidelines that the school has in place to ensure all children and adults stay safe during carpool drop-off and pick-up. You may also help us to keep carpool running smoothly by reminding your children that they need to sit quietly during carpool in the afternoon so that all students and staff are able to hear the carpool numbers as they are called. If you plan on using carpool but do not have a number, please come into the office so that we may assign you a carpool tag which you will hang on your rearview mirror during carpool.
1. When in the parking lot, drive slowly at all times, but especially in the loading/unloading area.
2. Only pick up and drop off your child from the inside lane. The outside lane is reserved for cars that are neither dropping off nor picking up children.
3. If you need to walk across the driving lanes to get from your car to the school, please use the sidewalk that goes down the middle of the parking lot and cross only at the crosswalk.
4. Only drop off your children when a staff member or student safety patrol member has opened the door.
5. Carpool is only for students we are placing in cars. If you get out of your car, you will need to go into the office to sign out your child. You will receive a sign-out slip there that you must present to the staff member nearest your child in the student waiting area before your child can be released.
6. All children must enter through the main doors where staff members are situated. No students may enter through other doors nor go straight to their classrooms in trailers.

Cedar Fork Community Center
The Cedar Fork Community Center's before and after school program is not affiliated with the school. However, staff from the community center will walk students into the school in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. Please contact the community center directly with any questions at (919) 463-7100.
Private Before/After School Programs
A variety of area childcare facilities drop-off and pick-up students at the school. Please contact these organizations directly for further information.
Parking
Parking is only permitted in the school parking lot by the school's main entrance. Parents are only allowed to park in the community center parking lot for the first 10 days of school. As a courtesy to our neighbors, please do not park in the neighborhood across the street. For safety, parent vehicles are not allowed behind the school.
Walkers
Only families who are not eligible for bus transportation may walk their children to school. To drop off and pick up your child at the walker door you will need to fill out a walker form that is available in the office. In the morning, students may be dropped off at the main entrance. In the afternoon, students may be picked up from the walker door located around the corner from the main entrance. Students are only eligible to walk without an adult/guardian if they are in fourth or fifth grade - or walking with a sibling who is. Before a child can walk to school without a parent/guardian, his/her parents must fill out a walker permission form that needs to be approved by the principal. Please use carpool rather than parking on premises. Any adult not in a car who is picking up a child from the carpool area will need to sign out his/her child in the office and get a sign-out slip to give to a staff member in the carpool area before taking his/her child.
